As organizers of the Natural Family Expo, our goal is to make the event better every year -- and we think 2016 is definitely going to be the best yet!
Accessibility is important to us. We want the Expo to be enjoyed by a broad range of area families. That’s one of the reasons we chose Monona Terrace for the venue. It’s an easy landmark and centrally located. It’s also on the bus lines and has plenty of nearby free parking on Sundays. This year we wanted to go further – to make the Expo truly accessible - we wanted the event to be free.
We worked extremely hard to find additional major sponsors for 2016. We’re thrilled to report that Summit Credit Union and Smart Motors joined the event’s other major sponsors: Willy Street Co-op, Blue River Chiropractic, Wildwood Family Clinics, and Happy Bambino. Thanks to all of these generous sponsors, there is NO fee to attend the 2016 Natural Family Expo – it is free and open to the community.
The 4th Annual Natural Family Expo opens its doors at 10am on Sunday March 13. Earlybirds will get the worm! Those arriving at 10 will be treated to a welcome performance from Drum Power’s drumming students and be first in line for swag bags.
The performances on our Main Stage kick off at 10:15 am when Cashel Dennehy Irish Dance performs and teaches a jig lesson! This year we tried to bring in a number of fresh new acts. So in addition to annual favorites – like Cashel Dennehy, Raizes do Brasil Capoeira, and Sparkle & Burn Hoop Dance – we’ve got comedy magician Nickey Fynn (runner up in the 2015 World Championships of Street Magic) and the (incomparable) Truly Remarkable Loon – juggler extraordinaire!
WORT 89.9 FM will be live recording its Pachyderm Parade radio show at the Natural Family Expo. During their show you’ll be treated to performances by Midnight Voices (an all girls all-star high school A Capella group) and Declan Killeen-Toomey, a 5-year old violin prodigy who - playing festive Irish tunes. If you want an encore, you can tune into to Pachyderm Parade that evening on WORT and hear the show that was recorded at the Expo!
The International Dance Showcase features three local high school dance groups: Nkauj Hmoob Madison Hmong Dance, Kioja Dance Team (step dances combining military drill & African Welly "gumboot" dances), and Hip Hop Movement. One of the area’s best hip hop dancers, Sage Kooy Buie will follow. Did you want a chance to dance? We thought so. The audience will get a chance to wrap the show.
A few other acts worth mentioning…The Babywearing Fashion show is back! This year’s fashion show is sponsored by Happy Bambino and organized/modeled by Babywearing International of Madison. Preview the latest greatest baby carriers and carries. Finally, Infinity Martial Arts’ showcase team seriously blew our minds – so much so that we pre-scheduled an encore performance at the Expo. We think you’ll be blown away!
